Decisions- the element that powers your Success

The crossing of the Rubicon River by Julius Caesar.

Ghandi’s ‘Salt March’ to resist the British Empire.

The invasion of Pearl Harbour

The quest to put Man on the Moon

All these events and a zillion others have one common denominator- Decisions.

Decision are the power that shape our Reality. All the choices you make in life will have some kind of result.  Each small or big decision you take has an impact, just like a stone creating ripples in a still pool of water. Decisions change the reality as it is and will cause a shift in the future potential, a shift that can lead to dramatic changes. The exciting thing is that decisions are not the sole property of great leaders, politicians or big businessmen.  Anyone has the ability to take powerful decisions that can affect one’s life. So do you consider yourself as an average, good, excellent or poor decision maker? Whatever your ability to take decisions, understand that if you want to be effective in life you have to hone your abilities in this essential life skill. If you want to change something you have to build conviction in what you are doing.  You have to believe that it is not the situation in which you are living that will influence the final outcomes of your life, but the decisions you actually take. Most people’s  goals are based on ‘shoulds’.  ‘I should start to diet’  ‘I should begin to study if I want to pass the exam’  ‘I should get a new job’.   Effective people, on the other hand, make their goals a must for them.  They decide what has to be done and they act on their decision – immediately. It is also crucial to understand that Decision-making is an art. An art that is perfected through practice. Unless you start taking a lot of decisions in your life, you will never be able to bring about change or feel confident and in control of your situation. And what’s more.   Achieving proficiency in good decision-making stems from the experience of making bad decisions. Any wrong decisions that you may have taken in the past are your pathway to new insights. To make a true decision you also need to commit yourself to achieve a specific result and then you just cut yourself off from any other possibility or alternative.  Just imagine if you need to raise your Standard about a specific aspect of your life.  Let’s say that you need to take decisions about: -       Adopting more Positive Core Beliefs and Life values -       Adopting positive language and  attitude -       Committing yourself to achieve your Dream and Life Purpose These decisions require full and total commitment. You just can’t back off at any turn or hiccup. Taking such a big decisions at this stage can be scary. But it can also be highly liberating.  Sitting on the fence for a long time is sometimes so draining that it is a relief to finally be able to take an important decision and start your first action to make it happen. So keep this in mind: -       Become confident and enjoy taking decisions quickly. -       Never leave the scene of a decision without taking a specific initial action towards its realization. -       Do not be afraid of making the wrong decision.  Learn from it even when you screw up. -       Stay committed to a decision but flexible in approach.
